China is building the world's longest double-deck suspension bridge.
The Yangsigang Bridge boasts a single span of 1,700 metres (5,577 feet) over the Yangtze River and will cost a whopping eight billion yuan (£900 million) to construct.
The bridge's span is 221 metres (725 feet) shorter than that of Japan's Akashi Kaikyō Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the world. But the Japanese bridge, which crosses the busy Akashi Strait, only has one level.
The news comes less than a month after China opened the world's longest sea-crossing bridge at 34 miles, linking Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai.

The enormous Yangsigang Bridge is expected to complete next October.
It will have six lanes on the upper deck, six lanes on the lower deck as well as a cycle lane and a pedestrian footpath at either side, reported Xinhua News Agency.
A suspension bridge is a bridge using overhead cables to support its roadway. Its span refers to the distance between two towers which the cables are attached to.
The Yangsigang Bridge's span is 50 metres (164 feet) longer than that of single-deck Xihoumen Bridge, the world's current second longest suspension bridge which is also in China.
It's also 420 metres (1,378 feet) longer than the span of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

The bridge is situated in Wuhan, the capital of central China's Hubei Province which has more than 10 million residents.
The bustling city already has nine bridges built across China's longest river Yangtze, which flows across its centre.
The main structure of the Yangsigang bridge deck comprises 49 colossal steel beams - each weighing 1,000 tonnes, the equivalent to 185 Asian elephants.

Liang Xianwei, a leading engineer from the bridge's construction team, told Xinhua that a special crane had to be designed in order to lift the massive beams, each of which measures 36 meters (118 feet) long, 32.5 meters (107 feet) wide and 10 meters (33 feet) tall.
The beams will be shipped to the construction site by boat before being lifted by the crane.
The first beam was installed on the bridge deck last Thursday, and the rest 48 are expected to be fixed by the end of this year.

Xu Gongyi, chief engineer of the Yangsigang bridge, explained why he hadn't designed any piers to support the bridge from underneath in a previous interview with Xinhua.
According to Mr Xu, the shipping lanes under the bridge are busy and there is an irrigation dam nearby, therefore any piers would affect the traffic and the water currents which will in turn impact the traffic and the dam.

The gargantuan project consists of a 22.9-kilometre-long (14.2-mile-long) oversea bridge and a 6.7-kilometre-long (4.2-mile-long) undersea tunnel, which is connected to the bridge by two artificial islands.
